Opera Cologne catch me again !! 02.07.17

DIE GEZEICHNETEN

The genoese nobleman Alviano, because of his ugliness, makes no hope for love. Carlotta, the artistically ambitious daughter of the mayor of Genoa, feels attracted by him and wants to paint his "beautiful soul". Alviano misunderstands this interest in his person and feels seriously loved. When Carlotta falls victim to the morally absurd tamper Tamare and perishes on this relationship, Alviano kills the rival and becomes insane.Franz Schreker's opera Die Gezeichneten, performed in the Renaissance era and premiered in Frankfurt in 1918, is musically bound to expressionism. At the center of the action, in which the theme complex "love and art" is reflected in an intriguingly graphic way, Alviano, a misunderstood outsider, is a so-called "writer".

The Cologne premiere of the "Gezeichneten" took place in 1920, followed by performances by other composer Franz Schreker, who, with his psycho-psychological and emotionally stirring music composers, was one of the most respected composers on German opera stages. Forbidden by the National Socialists, his work has been forgotten for several decades, before a re-discovery of his opulent music-hetronic treasures has taken place in recent years.

Patrick Kinmonth, who co-produced Richard Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" ("The Ring of the Nibelungen"), and subsequently worked on "Madama Butterfly" and "Solaris", was responsible for the production, which was premiered in April 2013 at the Cologne Opera House. Look forward to an excellent cast including guest stars like Marco Jentzsch, Bo Skovhus and Oliver Zwarg. On the podium of the Gürzenich orchestra is Maestro Stefan Soltesz.

Premiere 02.07, 18:00.

Staatenhaus Opera Cologne.
